The project was labelled ‘Time Loop’ because the main character, Olivia Waters, continues to loop through time from the 1990s to the 2020s. At each decade she has to complete certain tasks to move to the next decade. The idea was to have an animated girl in a room with a closet of clothes. The closet would change to the fashion of the decade. There would also be music playing that reflected that decade. The result would be an interactive game that would allow the player to work through the clues to help Olivia move to the next decade. The game was designed to appeal to a player who liked music and fashion, and was interested in how they changed over time. The project scope was reduced the decades to exclude earlier decades to suit the timeline of the continual assessment.

Synopticon,a visual novel with the themes of time, perception, and déjà vu using technological, sociological and media symbolism to explore the topics of how we interpret those around us both in real life and through media. It tells the story of two friends, Yuki and Minoru, and their difficult relationship and how they perceive each other with the ‘help’ of two other worldly beings, Cassian and Achill. As the story relied on a lot of written dialogue and thevisual representation of the dream world, the best way to get the story across was through a visual novel. That way both the visual and storytelling aspect was kept intact, and the player could receive as much information as possible and understand the message being sent. A visual novel was also chosen as it doesn’t rely on as much heavy editing or the creation of much graphics as much can be reused effectively, freeing up time to perfect the story.Lastly, all characters aren’t heavily gendered. While given masculine pronouns, no one within Synopticon is given a gender centredrole within the story, allowing players to connect with the characters regardless of gender and to allow interpretation of these characters.

Our Project is based on the concept of The Illusion of Time. We took this project as an opportunity to take advantage of the creative freedom we were given and design an interactive project in a way we had not done before, as well as making it relatable to our peers. This led us to the idea of creating Snapchat filters, a series of podcasts and an interactive website to portray how the illusion of times is incorporated into lockdown, the butterfly effect, emotions and dreams. We all have an individual story to tell based on each of the topics which will be told through the creation of interactive Snapchat filters. All of these stories will be represented by one avatar, a college student, to convey that this character relates to all of the topics in a unique way. Our avatar will use a blog style webpage to share their life experiences based on the chosen topics on the illusion of time. Here, they will share the podcast episodes and the Snapchat filters to express their thoughts and feelings. This makes our project real and relatable to the audience. This task has given us the ability to experiment with new software’s and create a unique, relatable, interactive project.
